Newmarket return option for Dashing Willoughby

Balding considers second shot at Group Two on July Course.

Andrew Balding may return Dashing Willoughby to Newmarket’s July Course for a second shot at the Princess of Wales’s Tattersalls Stakes.

The Group Two mile-and-a-half contest – in which the Nathaniel gelding finished fourth 12 months ago – is one of two races being considered by the Kingsclere handler, along with the Group Three Henry II Stakes at Sandown on Sunday week.

Having failed to win in four subsequent outings after landing last year’s Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot, the four-year-old made a triumphant return to action earlier this month on the Rowley Mile with a front-running success in the Buckhounds Stakes.

Balding said: “It was great to see him get his head back in front, and we’ve a couple of options we are looking at.

“We’ve got a few things to consider, like prize-money, but we are in no rush to make a decision yet.

“I’ve no doubt he will stay two miles, but at the same time he seems to like racing at Newmarket.”
