Pipe thrilled with Main Fact progression

Prolific seven-year-old has proved a real bargain.

David Pipe admits he has been surprised by the rapid improvement of Main Fact this jumps season.

The seven-year-old completed a five-timer in less than eight weeks when scooting up by 15 lengths from 14 rivals in a competitive handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter earlier this month.

Picked up for GBP 6,000 out of Dianne Sayer’s stable, Main Fact began the season on a mark of 98 and has risen to 147.

His winning run started over two miles at Warwick in January and he struck at Uttoxeter, Ffos Las and Wetherby before successfully stepping up to two and a half miles for a second win at Warwick.

“He’s taken us all by surprise the amount of improvement he’s made this season,” said Pipe.

“Obviously he loves soft ground and we’ve had a lot of that this year.

“He’ll have a holiday now and come back for a campaign later on in the year.

“He’s up to 147 now, so life gets tougher, but at the same time he seems to be improving. He’s only seven so it’s possible there could be further improvement.

“He’ll stick to hurdling for the time being.”
