Nicky Richards recovering after gallops fall
Veteran trainer taken to hospital having been unseated while riding out.
Nicky Richards is reported to be “pretty sore” after suffering a fall on the gallops at his yard in Cumbria on Monday morning. The multiple Grade One-winning trainer was riding out at his Greystoke base when he was unseated and had to be taken to hospital with his injuries. Richards’ daughter, Joey, said: “He had a fall this morning and it looks like he’s broken five ribs and chipped his shoulder. “He’s pretty sore, but he’s quite upbeat. They’re keeping him in hospital tonight to keep an eye on him and maybe tomorrow, but hopefully he’ll be back home after that. “He’s sat in bed reading his Racing Post. He won’t be on a horse again for a while, I wouldn’t think.” Richards has trained several top-class horses since taking over from his late father, Gordon, including The French Furze, Simply Ned and the popular grey Monet’s Garden.
