Options open for Politologue
Queen Mother Champion Chase winner Politologue is set to run again this season, according to trainer Paul Nicholls.
The nine-year-old grey ran brilliantly at Cheltenham on Wednesday to claim the prestigious feature race of the day. He took full advantage of Altior and Chacun Pour Soi’s absences to win the race ahead of Dynamite Dollars and Bun Doran, with odds-on favourite Defi Du Seuil languishing in fourth. It was his first win since an outing at Ascot in November 2018 and now there are plenty of potential outings in store for him. He could be in line for the Melling Chase at Aintree, a race which he won two years ago. However, Nicholls is keen to steer him to either the Celebration Chase at Sandown or Champion Chase at Punchestown. He said: ‘I would have thought he won’t go to Aintree as that might come a bit quick, but I wouldn’t want to rule it out if Min and everything else went elsewhere. ‘I expect we will go to either Sandown or Punchestown at the end of the season over two miles. He is good, fresh and he will go on any ground, though I wouldn’t risk him if it was fast. ‘He loves Sandown having won a Tingle Creek and he will be fresh so it will be one of those two Grade One races we go for.’
