O’Sullivan revels in shock Cheltenham win
Eugene O'Sullivan said he was 'overwhelmed' after It Came To Pass triumphed in the St James's Place Foxhunters Chase at Cheltenham.
There were question marks over It Came To Pass ahead of the race after he been pulled up in a point-to-point last time out, and odds of 66/1 suggested the bookies didn’t think he had much of a chance. However, the 10-year-old travelled well throughout the race and breezed into the lead on the turn home before finishing comfortably ahead of Willie Mullins challenger Billaway. It was a second winner in this race for O’Sullivan, who triumphed back in 1991 with Lovely Citizen, and the trainer expressed his delight at the surprise win at Prestbury Park. ‘It’s fantastic and I’m overwhelmed. We came to the race last year, but lost it on the rails,’ he said, as quoted by sportinglife.‘We won this 29 years ago when my brother rode him [Lovely Citizen] and my dad and my mam were here. ‘Sadly my father isn’t with us anymore, but I’m sure he’s looking down on us today.’
