Politologue secures Queen Mother Champion Chase win
Politologue upset the odds by defeating firm favourite Defi du Seuil in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.
With both Altior and Chacun Pour Soi absent from Wednesday’s feature, it seemed a formality that Defi du Seuil would romp to victory at Prestbury Park. However, Politologue, who had to settle for second place 12 months ago, got in front from the start and managed to hold firm under the guidance of Harry Skelton to provide trainer Paul Nicholls with his first win of the Festival in 2020. ‘He looked amazing all week, he’s brilliant when he’s fresh,’ Nicholls told BBC Radio 5 live. ‘I had said I wasn’t going to run him to make sure he was fresh. ‘The tactics where great, it was awesome.I looked in the paddocks before and I thought Politologue was a standout and I’m just pleased we stuck to the plan and kept him fresh and fit. ‘ Meanwhile. on day two, Envoi Allen landed the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle, while Champ snatched a win away from Minella Indo in a stirring finish to the RSA Insurance Novices’ Chase and Dame De Compagnie lived up to the favourite tag by securing a win in the Coral Cup.
