Willimas confident Mack The Man will recover
Trainer Evan Williams reckons Mack The Man will recover well from his fall at Newbury as he prepares for a Sandown run on Saturday.
While fighting for the lead in last month’s Grade Three Betfair Hurdle Handicap, he was brought down at the final flight and denied the opportunity to win a third consecutive outing. He won on outings in November and December at Warwick and Sandown’s Imperial Cup course respectively. Now, he is one of 27 declarations for Saturday’s Paddy Power Imperial Cup as he aims to get back to winning ways. Williams is convinced there is no lasting damage from his fall at Newbury and believes he is fresh and ready to go. ‘He seems fine since Newbury. He’s had a few schools and everything was grand,’ Williams told Sky Sports Racing. ‘What happened at Newbury is just racing, isn’t it? That’s what happens in those competitive handicaps. ‘He’s worked well since. He doesn’t show you a whole lot and is a pretty relaxed character. We’ve just tipped away with him quietly and freshened him up and everything is good.’
