Meade buoyed by Beacon Edge run
Trainer Noel Meade was buoyed by Beacon Edge's run at Naas on Sunday and feels his charge is set for a bright future.
The six-year-old came home second in the Paddy Power Betting Shop Novice Hurdle at Naas on Sunday to further enhance his reputation after winning at Punchestown in October. He started to attract attention after enjoying a positive bumper campaign last season, finished fourth at the Dublin Racing Festival, and was unlucky not to earn a victory this weekend among strong company. Meade’s charge looks set to head to Cheltenham in March for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle but they are considering another outing before the showpiece event. ‘We think he’s a very good horse and we always did. He just got held up with me all winter,’ said Meade.‘He probably would have won with a good jump at the last. He just reached for it and got a bit unbalanced, but it’s a good run for just his second run over hurdles. ‘If you look back at his form he was beaten just over three lengths by Envoi Allen – his form is top class. ‘I don’t know what the plans are and I’ll have to talk to Michael and Eddie (O’Leary) before seeing where he’ll go.’
