Season potentially over for Cyrname
Trainer Paul Nicholls says Cyrname is 'fine' after a fall in the Ascot Chase but says he may not race again this season.
Cyrname went off as the heavy favourite on Saturday and led in the latter stages but was overtaken by eventual winner Riders Onthe Storm with two fences to go. Traffic Fluide then moved ahead of Cyrname into second but the pair both fell at the last fence. Nicholls has moved to play down any serious concerns over his charge but says Cyrname’s season could well be over, meaning a tilt at the Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival next month looks to be off the table. ‘He just got winded,’ Nicholls told ITV Sport. ‘He’s fine. We’ll get him back. I’d say leave him until next season now. ‘There is something missing, I can’t really put my finger on it, but he’ll be back and that is the main thing.’
