Teal hoping for dry Cheltenham

Trainer Roger Teal says he wants a dry spring to give Ocean Wind the best chance of victory at next month's Cheltenham Festival.

The four-year-old is in excellent form at the minute having won on Saturday in a Listed contest, defeating some well-fancied opponents.

It was his second win in three starts after winning his maiden start at Huntingdon in November.

At Cheltenham on New Year’s Day, he finished second on soft ground.

Now, looking ahead to next month’s Weatherbys Champion Bumper, Teal is hoping for firmer ground to suit his charger.

‘I said to the owners that if we have a dry spring, that will work in our favour,’ said the Lambourn trainer.

‘He coped with soft ground when he ran at Cheltenham before, but he didn’t show the turn of foot he did on Saturday.

That was because it was tacky ground.

‘He’s still a bit green.

He’s learning all the time, so hopefully, he’ll come forward again.’
