Step Back pencilled in for Sandown outing
‘We might take him to Punchestown later in the season and have a bit of fun over there’.
Step Back will be to get his career back on track in the Masters Handicap Chase at Sandown on Saturday week. The 2018 bet365 Gold Cup winner is in line to return to the scene of his most significant success for the three-mile contest, as he seeks to end a losing streak stretching back more than 18 months. After undergoing a wind operation over the summer the 10-year-old made his return to action in the London National – a race that was later voided – at the Esher track last month. Trainer Mark Bradstock said: “The plan is to run Step Back at Sandown in a couple of weeks. We might take him to Punchestown later in the season and have a bit of fun over there. “One thing we have realised is that he does have a preference for right-handed tracks. “He worked very well on Wednesday morning and three miles around Sandown will be fine for him, as he likes the track and we know he jumps well around there.”
