Lightly Raced Chaser To Make The Headlines
Dalglish Six-Year-Old Ready For Another Win With Conditions Ideal
Jockey Brian Hughes literally experienced the ups and downs of National Hunt racing at Wetherby yesterday when winning the penultimate race there and then getting no further than the first fence in the next. He has a full book of rides at Carlisle today, however, with a big chance of a win on SPORTING PRESS in the Like Racing TV On Facebook Handicap Chase. The gelding looked to be destined to be a chaser from the start when being raced in Irish point-to-points as a four-year-old for Monbeg trainer Donnchadh Doyle in the Spring of 2017. He went to Keith Dalgleish for the start of the 2018 season but after one run in January, a third to Precious Cargo when made favourite at Ayr, he was diagnosed with a wind problem. After an operation in February, 2018, he reappeared at Musselburgh and got home in a photo’ from Leostar. His profile since has been one of a horse that needs looking after in terms of not over-racing, a characteristic of many of the progeny of his sire, Flemensfirth. He has had couple of races after reasonably lengthy breaks and significantly has won second time out both occasions. He races today after a promising run at Kelso following a break and looks primed for another win. Top on BTO regular and speed ratings, he is dropped 2lb from his last run and should now be in optimum condition. He is at the right course as well, where the progeny of his sire have won 18% of races there and wears a hood, an aid that has seen him win twice and be placed once when fitted. HONOURABLE GENT is a major challenger but is up 5lb for his win at Kelso last time; that puts him on a mark of 115, a rating that has seen him placed rather than winning in the past. LE FRANK, third at Perth three weeks ago is being backed but his siblings are a meagre 8% at the course from 37 runs. Vocaliser, who started racing life in a seven furlong event at Leopardstown, is also attracting money and has won twice after breaks (also disappointed on four occasions!), but hasn’t produced a decent performance in eighteen months. At Bet 365’s 7/2, Sporting Press looks the one.
