Walker to rely on Maygold at Ascot
Ed Walker has been left cursing the weather, with plenty of forecast rain scuppering his plans for what could have been a bumper Saturday at Ascot. The Lambourn trainer had entered several of his stable stars, including Caradoc in the Group Three Property Raceday Targets £3M Cumberland Lodge Stakes and Swindler in the John Guest Racing Bengough Stakes. Both need top of the ground, though, so they are highly unlikely run. Walker will, however, be represented by recent Haydock winner Maygold in the UK Hi-Fi Show Live Rous Stakes. “Caradoc won’t run. I’d have thought,” he said. “I very much doubt he’ll go – and I don’t think Swindler will go, either. “Maygold will run in the Rous Stakes, and she’ll like the ground. She was impressive at Haydock last time out. “I don’t think there’s anything left for Caradoc now – and I’ll probably put him away, to be honest.”
