Laurens proves too much at Deauville

Laurens proved her credentials once again on Sunday after winning the Prix Rothschild at Deauville, her sixth Group 1 success.

Karl Burke’s charge won her first race since October 2018 after powering home in front of With You on Sunday afternoon.

The four-year-old has now won three races in four starts in France and jockey PJ McDonald got her in a superb position during the final few furlongs.

Laurens is now the fourth British-trained winner of the race in the last 10 years and Burke is already looking at the Prix Jean Romanet and Matron Stakes for later this season.

The bay filly will now enjoy a short break and McDonald was quick to heap praise on his ride.

He told Sky Racing: ‘I’m absolutely chuffed to bits for Laurens as the doubters have been out for her which has been very unfair.

‘She’s so consistent and has never let us down.

It’s a pleasure to be involved with her and she’s a once-in-a-lifetime filly for me.

‘I wanted to dominate on her today and make it a proper test, and that’s what she did.’
