Mengli Khan is Elliott's Galway hope

Mengli Khan has been singled out by Gordon Elliott as his main hope to win next Wednesday’s Galway Plate at Ballybrit.

The County Meath-based handler has left 12 horses in for the race at the confirmation stage as he looks for a third win in four years following on from Lord Scoundrel’s success in 2016 and Clarcam’s victory 12 months ago.

And, looking ahead to his contenders for the handicap chase, Elliott believes his six-year-old Mengli Khan could come out on top.

‘I suppose we’ll have four or five runners all being well,’ he said.

‘Mengli Khan would probably look the main one and we have A Toi Phil, Borice, Barra, who was unlucky when she fell in the Midlands National, and Ravenhill, who won the qualifier in Limerick.

‘We’ve got a good hand in it and we’re looking forward to it.’
