Moore buzzing after Ten Sovereigns triumph
Jockey Ryan Moore paid tribute to trainer Aidan O’Brien after partnering Ten Sovereigns to glory in the Darley July Cup at Newmarket.
The three-year-old went off at 9/2, with Advertise, under Frankie Dettori, the 3/1 favourite, but he landed the spoils with an excellent run at Headquarters. The son of No Nay Never got out quickly and then responded well when asked for more, with the colt sealing a two-and-three-quarter-length success. Advertise was second as another of O’Brien’s charges, Fairyland, ended up third. Ten Sovereigns was fourth in Ascot’s Commonwealth Cup last month and Moore was full of praise for the way connections prepared him for the Newmarket challenge.‘Aidan had him in tip-top shape, he liked the faster ground and was just a bit rusty at Ascot,’ he told ITV Racing. ‘He jumped, travelled nicely and when I gave him a squeeze, he picked up well. ‘The other side were ahead of me, he was a bit babyish and I could have done with some help, but he quickened very well. He’s very nice.’
