Follow Up On The Cards For Filly
Recent Winner Set To Strike Again Under Same Conditions
When a filly strikes form it is time to take notice and when she is an improving three-year-old and returns to the scene of her win that interest doubles. We have this scenario with the George Baker trained CONFILS at Bath tonight and she looks likely to defy a 6 lbs penalty for a victory over one mile two furlongs of the course a week ago today. Pat Cosgrave rode her there for the second time and, held up, she was brought with a last furlong swoop to win very readily from Frantical and Prerogative. It was a run of the mill handicap but so is today’s event and she shaped as though the extra furlong and a half would suit well. The only doubt about her being a ‘good thing’ is the going which is edging towards Bath’s very firm Summer character. Although her breeding doesn’t advertise her ability to act on it (the progeny of her sire, Olympic Glory are going at about 5% on such ground), she doesn’t have a knee action and good to firm didn’t bother her last week. Two other recent runners, JUST RIGHT and SIGRID NANSEN look her main rivals and the latter is second favourite after a facile win at Brighton last time out. It was an amateurs’ affair however and the form might be unreliable; he also has a 5 lbs penalty. At Bet 365 and BetVictor’s 7/4, Confils looks the bet. G Lees
