Options aplenty for Dubawi Fifty

Connections of Dubawi Fifty say the six-year-old has plenty of options following his impressive run in the Northumberland Plate.

The Karen McLintock-trained gelding lost by just a head to the fast-finishing Who Dares Wins during Saturday’s handicap race at Newcastle, but the nature of his performance has left his trainer and owners Paul and Clare Rooney with a welcome headache.

The team are now considering a number of options for Dubawi Fifty, including the two-mile Marsh Cup at Newbury on July 20, the Qatar Summer Handicap at Goodwood on August 3 and the Sky Bet Ebor at York on August 24, with McLintock confirming all three races are firmly on the table.

‘We haven’t made any definite plans,’ McLintock said.

‘We are considering Newbury; there’s an open handicap at Goodwood over a mile six, and I intend to put an entry into the Ebor.

‘ The Ebor, in particular, appears to be catching the attention of McLintock, who did not think Dubawi Fifty had the pace to run in such a race until his weekend performance.

‘I didn’t think he’d be quick enough for the Ebor,’ the trainer added.

‘I thought he was more of a stayer – but on Saturday he travelled well, and I think he’s stronger.

‘I was impressed with the way he travelled, so I thought I’d put an entry in and see.

We’re just mulling those over.’
