Pretty Pollyanna heading to Newmarket

Horse Racing

Trainer Michael Bell says Pretty Pollyanna will drop back in trip and aim at the Darley July Cup at Newmarket.

Bell’s charge was expected to challenge in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot on June 21 after claiming second place in the Irish 1,000 Guineas at the Curragh in May.

But the three-year-old struggled with the distance and had to settle for a disappointing seventh place after fading in the latter stages.

With that in mind, Bell believes it is best to drop the filly back in trip as they hope for an improved performance at Newmarket.

Bell said: ‘I think we are looking to revert to sprinting and she’s going to take her chance in the July Cup.

‘It was visually her most impressive performance over that same course and distance last year, so it would seem to make sense.’
