Nagano Gold likely to miss King George

Fahey relaxed on Peregrine Run's next race

Nagano Gold is ‘not very likely’ to head back to Ascot for the King George after his run at the Royal meeting last week.

The five-year-old almost claimed a shock win in the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes on June 22 but ultimately finished half a length behind Defoe.

Following his exploits at the Berkshire circuit, connections hinted that they could return to Ascot for the King George on July 27.

However, racing manager Thomas Janada admits that now looks unlikely, although he insists they are yet to make a ‘final decision’.

Janada said: ‘No final decision has been made on where he will run next, but there are a lot of options and there are a lot of things to consider – things like the jockey, the opposition and transport.

‘He is entered in a Group One in Berlin and he’ll be entered for a race at Deauville, but I think I can say the King George is not very likely.

It is four weeks away, and there is a high supplementary fee.’
