Gosden 'got it wrong' with Too Darn Hot

Phoenix Of Spain and Too Darn Hot will renew their rivalry in the St James’ Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot on Tuesday.

The duo are among a field of 11 declared runners for the showpiece race as they look to further bolster their reputations.

Too Darn Hot dominated the juvenile division last season, winning four times, including a comprehensive victory over Phoenix Of Spain at Doncaster.

However, Phoenix Of Spain has come out fighting this term and denied Too Darn Hot the Irish 2,000 Guineas crown last month on his seasonal bow.

John Gosden will be eyeing revenge with Too Darn Hot but also has an interesting second contender in the mix with King Of Comedy.

The three-year-old boasts back-to-back victories in 2019 at Sandown and Yarmouth and has won three of his four career outings.

Aidan O’Brien has previous in the Group One event, saddling a record seven winners, and he has three involved in this year’s renewal.

The Irish Rover, Van Beethoven and Circus Maximus will all be looking to put in a strong performance for the trainer.

Bell Rock, Fox Champion, Royal Marine, Shaman and Skardu make up the rest of the field for what looks set to be an exciting event at Royal Ascot.
