Meade planning Commonwealth Cup glory

Horse Racing

Trainer Martyn Meade says stable star Advertise could now run in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.

The three-year-old is still among 16 entries left in the St James’s Palace Stakes on the opening day of the meeting.

Advertise was last in action on May 4 when he finished 15th in the Qipco 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.

With that in mind, Meade is now contemplating a sprint race, with the Commonwealth Cup his preferred option.

‘The Commonwealth Cup is cutting up a little bit and he did pretty well last year as a two-year-old over six furlongs so we are favouring that option,’ Meade said.

‘Based on his homework and everything, we think he will be quick enough for that race and so that’s what we are favouring.

We’d be looking for the ground to dry out a bit and a strong pace.

There looks to be a few in there likely to provide that.’
