A Sprinter to Note at Ripon

A Sprinter to Note at Ripon

Course and distance specialist returns for another crack at this evening’s Directors Cup at the Garden Racecourse.

Pipers Note may not have been at his best on his last couple of starts but it’s worth chancing he can return to form back at his favourite course this evening.

The nine-year-old looked in need of the run when making his seasonal reappearance at Kempton back in March but he left that form behind when only narrowly denied over the minimum trip at Pontefract next time out.

He’s had excuses on his two subsequent runs, drawn on the wrong side over course and distance in April before doing too much too soon at Thirsk last time when unsuited by a chance of tactics.

As a result, the son of Piccolo returns 2lb below his last winning handicap mark (a course and distance success in August) and given that he has by far and away the best course form in the race with eight wins from 21 starts, he can get his season back on track in a race he won back in 2017.

BTO top-rated Roundhay Park will be many people’s idea of the main danger with Nigel Tinkler’s yard in flying form in recent weeks and while he’s back below his last winning handicap mark, he will be of more interest when returned to five furlongs.

Growl tops BTO Speed Ratings and will long be remember for his placed effort in Group 1 company on Champions Day back in 2016.

However, he’s been below par in two runs this season and would probably prefer some cut in the ground; Pipers Note rates as a more interesting at more than twice the price (16/1).
