Haggas hints at Royal Ascot trip

Sea Of Class loses colic battle

Trainer William Haggas has revealed Maqsad could be given a shot at the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot this month.

Maqsad was one of the more well-fancied horses for Friday’s Investec Oaks at Epsom but, under the guidance of jockey Jim Crowley, she was unable to make any real impression and had to settle for eighth place.

It was a slightly disappointing run from the three-year-old, who went into the meeting on the back of successive Newmarket victories, and connections are now deliberating what to do next.

Speaking about Maqsad, Haggas has revealed his charge could be heading to Royal Ascot later this month.

‘She definitely didn’t stay, but I’m not sure she would have won at a mile and a quarter either – so we will have to regroup.

I wouldn’t rule out a shot at the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot,’ he was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

‘We will see how she is because she had a hard race and she was tired after the race.

She showed a lot of speed and is getting quicker.

‘She is not in the Pretty Polly (at the Curragh) – and if you are waiting for a Group One that is the Nassau, and that is the end of July, so we can squeeze another one in before then.’
