Dettori reveals plans for Private Secretary

Dettori takes Raa Atoll ride

Frankie Dettori says Private Secretary will head to Ascot for the King Edward VII Stakes after winning at Goodwood.

The three-year-old proved too strong for his six rivals in the Cocked Hat Stakes at Goodwood on Friday, his third successive win, to further boost claims for a spot in the Epsom Classic a week on Saturday.

Dettori has already been informed by trainer John Gosden that he won’t be required at Epsom, he said: ‘John’s told me that I can look elsewhere.’

But the veteran jockey was still full of praise for Private Secretary and confirmed a trip to Ascot on June 21 was on the cards. ‘He loved the ground and he’s maturing,’

Dettori said. ‘I had a bad draw so I had to sit last and I was further out of my ground than I wanted to be, but he showed a good turn of foot and won really well in the end.

‘He will be a good King Edward VII horse in three weeks’ time, a mile-and-a-half will be ideal for him and I think he will be better on a track like Ascot.’
