Mulrennan hails Mabs’ triumph
Jockey Paul Mulrennan feels Mabs Cross’s victory in Newmarket’s Zoustar Palace House Stakes shows just how good she is.
The five-year-old made it back-to-back wins in the Group 3 contest, beating Equilateral by a neck at Headquarters. That was despite carrying a penalty for her victory in the Group One Prix de l’Abbaye in October last year. The daughter of Dutch Art won by a neck 12 months ago and she repeated the feat this time around, collaring Equilateral right on the line. It was a tough race for the filly and Mulrennan believes she is progressing nicely ‘Giving that penalty away, she has proved she is the real deal. She has improved as the winter has gone on and she has got stronger,’ he said. ‘She had to do it the hard way, as she was always stuck out on the wing a little bit as she had nothing to race with. ‘She is a very special filly and fair to play to Michael Dods – he is a dab hand with these. She will improve as well as she has not had a run this year.’
