Gosden confirms Too Darn Hot blow
Trainer John Gosden has confirmed European champion juvenile Too Darn Hot will not compete in the Qipco 2,000 Guineas.
The three-year-old was the ante-post favourite for the first Classic of the season at Newmarket. The colt had been expected to make it five wins in a row on Saturday week but a splint issue has derailed plans. He was ruled out of last weekend’s Greenham Stakes and despite improving, Gosden admits his stable star will not be ready for the Guineas. Gosden told the Racing Post: ‘Although he has shown great improvement in the last nine days, Too Darn Hot will not be ready in time to run in the 2,000 Guineas.‘It’s unfortunate but it’s only two weeks away and that does not allow us sufficient time to get the required work into him. ‘Consequently he’ll miss Newmarket. The two races we have in mind now are both next month, the Dante Stakes at York and Irish 2,000 Guineas.’
