A Win In Sight At Gosforth Park
Trainer And Jockey Combination Ready To Strike Again
Newmarket trainer James Tate is in robust form with three winners and two places from five runners in the last week, and he looks to add to that with DISTANT MIRAGE today. The filly was expected at Wolverhampton last time out after a win at Kempton in February on seasonal debut, and then a close third at Lingfield. She was slowly away at Wolverhampton, didn’t quite get the run of the race and was beaten three lengths into sixth. She is down a pound today.Significantly, the going was standard to slow when she won at Kempton and she returns to that surface this evening. Another factor is the booking of Jamie Spencer by Tate and the pair are six from 25 at the course. The daughter of Toronado is top on BTO regular and speed figures and is best in five of the 12 criteria. James Bethell’s RICH APPROACH, a winner here but over a furlong longer in January is next best on ratings, and DEVIL’S ANGEL makes his handicap debut after a win here in a novice but again drops down a furlong. Distant Mirage can clearly be seen as the winner at widespread 9/2. G Lees
