Presenting Percy out until next season

Presenting Percy owner Philip Reynolds says his horse suffered a bad injury at Cheltenham and will not run again until next season.

There were high expectations at the Cheltenham Festival for the eight-year-old in the Gold Cup but he never got going in the race eventually won by Al Boum Photo.

The 100/33 favourite finished 33 lengths behind the winner in eighth and scans by vets showed he was lame after the race although the setback is not as bad as first feared.

‘He was lame as a duck after Cheltenham.

He’s back at Pat’s (trainer, Patrick Kelly), after spending time with Gerry Kelly [a vet], and the prognosis is better than first feared,’ Reynolds said.

‘He has something called sclerosis on his near hind, which in layman’s terms means he’s got a bad bone bruise.

I know Gerry was fearful he’d suffered a fracture so thank God it’s not that serious, but it’s still going to take him plenty of time to recover.

‘He’ll need plenty of box rest before he does some time on the walker and then comes back to the farm here for the summer.’
