Bristol De Mai out of Grand National
The Nigel Twiston-Davies trained Bristol Du Mei has been pulled out of this year’s Grand National.
The grey was due to carry 11st 10lb heading into the National, which is due to take place next Saturday. He ran his best race to date at the Cheltenham Festival, finishing third in the Magners Gold Cup behind Al Boum photo. However, connections have decided to pull him out of the showpiece race at Aintree to run him in the Betway Bowl on Thursday, two days before the National is run. Twiston-Davies has backed the decision, saying it would be a less gruelling option for the seven-year-old.‘He’s fine and the plan is to run in the Bowl,’ he said. ‘It was just decided that on his Gold Cup form he ought to win the Bowl and it’s possibly the easier option. He’s in good form.’
