Winx just keeps on winning
Australian mare Winx extended her winning run to 32 on Saturday with a fourth victory in the George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill in Sydney.
The seven-year-old continues to impress and she proved too much for her rivals, just two weeks after winning at Randwick. Winx has now won three races in a row this season and she is scheduled to have the final start of her glittering career in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick on April 13. Jockey Hugh Bowman settled her to the back before, after giving her a brief shake, she steadily powered clear over the final furlong and a half to record her 24th Group One win. Despite many asking connections to carry on racing, trainer Chris Waller told the Sydney Morning Herald: ‘She’s at her best and she’s going to retire at her best.I think it’s the best way to go out. ‘I’m sure she knows what’s going on. Just a marvellous horse to work with and we owe it to her to be in this position.’
