Cheltenham a no-go for Fox Norton

Leading Ryanair Chase contender Fox Norton will miss next week’s Cheltenham Festival after suffering an injury setback.

The Colin Tizzard-trained nine-year-old had been highly fancied to win the Grade One prize and also held an entry in the Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase.

However, the gelding will now miss the Festival altogether after suffering a recurrence of a previous leg injury.

Tizzard’s son and assistant Joe confirmed the news, saying: ‘We’re really disappointed but unfortunately Fox Norton will miss the Ryanair next week due to a recurrence of an old injury.

‘ Fox Norton was also forced to miss the Ryanair Chase last year and only returned to action in January with a second-place finish in the Matchbook Clarence House Chase at Ascot.

That was one of two races that Fox Norton has taken part in this season and connections will be hoping his latest setback does not keep him on the sidelines for too long.
