Cheltenham run an option now for Robinsfirth

Assistant trainer Joe Tizzard says Robinsfirth could run at Cheltenham after winning the William Hill Grand National Trial at Haydock.

Robinsfirth held off Ramses De Teillee and Chef D’Oeuvre to win Saturday’s contest and Tizzard is now weighing up his options, although a tilt at the Grand National at Aintree in April is not on the agenda despite his success in the trial.

The Scottish National at Ayr on April 13 is a possibility but, before then, the Ultima Handicap on the first day of the Cheltenham Festival on March 12 is under consideration for the 10-year-old.

Tizzard said: ‘He’s always had bags of ability, but he’s very fragile.

That’s like his Gold Cup.

Sean (Bowen) gave him a super ride.

‘He got mugged here last time, but he timed it right today.

‘His owners have had to be patient, but they’ve been rewarded today.

They weren’t interested in Aintree, though.

‘Were he to run in the Scottish National he’d need it to rain, but it’s almost four weeks to Cheltenham, he could run in the Ultima.

‘Today has been his aim all season, though, so it’s brilliant.’
