George upbeat ahead of Black Op chase debut

Black Op will make his first appearance over fences at Exeter on Friday and trainer Tom George is in confident mood.

George’s charge was due to make a chase debut last month at Exeter but was withdrawn due to concerns over the ground.

The seven-year-old finished second in the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival last season and won the Mersey Novices’ Hurdle at Aintree over hurdles, and George is hoping for another successful campaign.

‘It looks a competitive little race, but we’ve got to start somewhere and there aren’t that many options for him,’ said George, as reported by Sky Sports.

‘He’s been ready to go for three weeks, but there’s been nowhere to go with him the way the ground has been.

‘They’ve done away with a lot of the beginners’ chases, so we have to run in a novice and I just hope they don’t give each other too hard a race.

‘Hopefully there’s a long winter ahead of us.

‘ Black Op will contest the Heavitree Brewery PLC Novices’ Chase at Exeter on Friday, with Topofthegame and White Moon among his six rivals.
