Tizzard to pitch duo into battle at Haydock
Thistlecrack could be set to tackle stablemate Native River in the Betfair Chase at Haydock on November 24, Colin Tizzard has hinted.
The 10-year-old has endured a couple of injury-blighted years and is winless in three races since picking up the 2016 King George. Thistlecrack’s most recent run was in the King George last year when he finished in fourth place, less than six lengths behind the winner Might Bite. There are handicap options to pitch him into such as the BetVictor Gold Cup and the Ladbrokes Trophy, but Tizzard appears to favour a showdown with Gold Cup winner Native River in a level weights contest. ‘He’s fit and well, and we will probably go to Haydock,’ he told the Daily Mirror.‘We’ve entered him in some handicaps, but that is to cover all bases in case the ground stops us. ‘He doesn’t need it heavy – as long as it’s softer than good.’
