Classy Cracksman repeats Champion success
Frankie Dettori and Cracksman were too good for their rivals as they stormed to a second successive Champions Stakes success.
Wins for Stradivarius and Roaring Lion had set John Gosden up for a treble and Anthony Oppenheimer’s four-year-old did not disappoint.Aidan O’Brien’s Capri looked dangerous behind pacemaker Maverick Wave, but Cracksman came from wide and Dettori guided him home for a six-length victory.
Crystal Ocean was second for Sir Michael Stoute as third went to unheralded Czech trainer Zdeno Koplik’s Subway Dancer.
Speaking afterwards, Gosden admitted his change was too good for the field and has suggested now might be the time to send him to stud.
Gosden said: ‘Obviously, he’s a hugely-talented horse. He’s a mighty impressive horse and I never mind blinkers.
‘When he’s in the zone, he’s a very good horse. I would think quite likely he’ll go to stud (now).’
