Douvan owner hoping for big things
Douvan owner Rich Ricci says he can live up to his potential in the next year if he stays fit.
The eight-year-old was one of the stars on the horse racing circuit after winning his first 13 races, including eight of them at Grade 1 level. However, injuries then started to strike after he finished lame at the 2017 Queen Mother Champion Chase and he was out of action for a year.He then fell at the same race in March and finished second at Punchestown in April in the BoyleSports Champion Chase, behind stablemate Un De Sceaux. However, Ricci is bullish that 2018-19 will turn out to be much better, and the French born Douvan can live up to his massive potential once again. ‘I’m hoping for the first time in a while Douvan will have a clear run,’ Ricci told the Racing Post. ‘We haven’t seen him do what we think he’s capable of and if he can stay healthy he’d be a horse I’d love to see really get what he deserves. ‘He’s a big talking horse. Willie, who doesn’t say these things without a lot of thought, said he might have been the best he’d ever trained and I’d like to be able see him demonstrate that.’
