Laurens has connections buzzing
Connections were delighted with Laurens’ display after she claimed the Kingdom Of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket.
The three-year-old made it a quick-fire double after winning the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown on September 15, with her victory by a head the filly’s fifth Group 1 triumph.Under Danny Tudhope, Laurens matched rival Happily in the early stages and looked comfortable throughout before pulling clear, only for Aidan O’Brien’s charge to close the gap as the line approached.
However, it was too late to prevent her scoring and Tudhope was impressed with his mount.
He said: ‘She was probably a bit fresh and keen today.
He (Donnacha O’Brien on Happily) was trying to steady it up, but I thought I’d go on at my own pace.
‘She’s done it well and is very tough. I was hoping she’d relax more and she did, she got the job done and is a super filly. ‘
Trainer Karl Burke admits that options are now open for the daughter of Siyouni.
‘She could be supplemented for the QEII, she’s already in the Champion Stakes and there’s two options at the Breeders’ Cup, so we’ve got a bit to discuss and the main thing is to make sure she’s A1,’ he said.
