Fabre wary of Enable threat for Waldgeist
Trainer Andre Fabre says Waldgeist is ‘back to his best’ but faces a huge task trying to beat Enable in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
Enable is the favourite for the ParisLongchamp showpiece on Sunday, with British rival Sea Of Class next in the betting ahead of the quietly-fancied Waldgeist.Fabre appears confident his charge can make an impact in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe but stopping Enable, who is bidding to become only the second horse since 1978 to win successive renewals, will be difficult.
He told PA Sport: ‘He’s improved this year, but he also showed top form as a three-year-old. He could have won the Prix du Jockey Club and he ran well in the Irish Derby, in which he picked up a back injury.
‘He won a Group One at two and now he’s back to his best.
‘However, it is like playing Barcelona, taking on Enable. Barcelona do get beaten, but it’s like combining them with Manchester City having to take on Enable, Prince Khalid, John Gosden and the Messi – Frankie Dettori.’
