Dettori hails Lah Ti Dar’s staying power
Lah Ti Dar has the staying power to impress in Saturday’s St Leger at Doncaster, according to jockey Frankie Dettori.
The unbeaten John Gosden-trained filly produced a dominant display on her comeback from a virus, which forced her to miss the Oaks at Epsom in June, when winning by 10 lengths in in the Galtres Stakes at York last month. And, despite the St Leger being two-and-half furlongs longer than that mile-and-a-half race, Dettori is confident that Lah Ti Dar can live up to her favourites’ tag.
He said: ‘We know she stays well enough. I don’t think the extra furlongs will be a problem, but until we try we don’t know.
‘The decision to run at Doncaster rather than France [in the Vermeille at Longchamp] all came down to the ground. The Vermeille was there to be taken but they are having a heatwave and the ground is firm.
‘Lah Ti Dar is a daughter of Dubawi with a pronounced knee action and we felt Doncaster would suit her better.’
