Summer special for O’Meara and Tudhope in Stewards’ Cup
Deserved big-race victory for gallant six-year-old.
Summerghand finally had his day in the sun after a series of near misses in big sprint handicaps when winning the Unibet Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood. Fourth in this race 12 months ago and runner-up in the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot this summer to name just two big efforts in defeat, Summerghand rewarded trainer David O’Meara and his team despite carrying top-weight of 9st 10lb. As usual the six-furlong dash was a cavalry charge with the 27-runner field splitting into three groups. Meraas, Angel Alexander, Gulliver, Louie de Palma, Nahaarr and Brian The Snail were among those prominent in the early stages.A thrilling finish to the Stewards’ Cup:
