Castlegrace Paddy possible for Fairyhouse duty

Webster Cup winner in good shape following Navan victory.

An appearance at Fairyhouse on Easter Monday could be next on the agenda for Pat Fahy’s stable star Castlegrace Paddy.

Having been largely disappointing since landing the Hilly Way Chase at Cork in December 2018, the nine-year-old bounce back to something like his best when landing the Webster Cup at Navan – doubling his Grade Two tally.

Fahy has identified the Devenish Chase as a possible next port of call.

“We were delighted with him in Navan and he seems to have come out of it well,” said the Leighlinbridge-based trainer.

“The ground was pretty soft the time before in Naas, but it was holding and when the ground is like that he just can’t jump out of it.

“The ground was wetter in Navan and he’s much better when it’s like that – he’s a class horse and when he likes the ground you can see the difference it makes to his jumping as he’s a lot slicker and he lets fly.

“He’ll be ready for action again if there is action. It’s hard to get these horses right and I think you should kick on with them and make the most of it when they are right.

“There’s a race in Fairyhouse over Easter for him, so we’ll have a look at that if we’re still racing by then.”
