Dascombe Filly To Go Quickly Go Over The Ground
The ground is heavy at Haydock, and proven form and family preferences must be considered when looking for a winner at the course today. Two that fit the bill in the Virgin Bet EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes over 6f are WHATABIRD and QUICK RECAP, and the latter just gets the nod. Both have run once and produced promising displays. Whatabird ran over similar ground and course and distance at the last meeting here three weeks ago and was just run out of it by Brookside Banner, trained and ridden by the Quick Recap team of Dascombe and Kingscote. The latter must have an idea of what is required to beat her and Quick Recap seems to fit the bill.
She is by No Nay Never who comfortably won the 2013 Prix Morny at Deauville on good to soft ground. His progeny has shown a distinct liking for ground with plenty of give, producing an impressive win rate of 29% from 52 runners since the horse took up stud duties. The filly confirmed this liking when running fourth of 10 at Carlisle a fortnight ago. It wasn’t a top event but she ran a race absolutely full of promise. Slowly away and second last on the rails for the first four furlongs, she began to run on from the back just inside the two furlongs marker but was checked. She then kept on really impressively under Franny Norton’s hands and heels drive and was gaining on all but the winner at the end. She looked a sure future winner and Jockey Richard Kingscote’s 19% at the course is hardly an impediment. REVIETTE and MRS MERTON look the other two to consider and IKEBANA will be backed as all Roger Varian’s charges are at Haydock, but Bet365 and BetVictor’s 10/3 about Quick Recap looks very attractive.
