Sea Of Class remains on course for King George
Trainer William Haggas says Sea of Class remains on course to run in next month’s King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot.
The four-year-old, who won the Irish and Yorkshire Oaks last year before pushing Enable all the way in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, could only finish fifth on her seasonal reappearance in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot last week. There were extenuating circumstances to that underwhelming performance as there was heavy rain in the build-up to the race that initially put her participation in doubt. However, dryer conditions the night before the race encouraged Haggas to leave her in, but the trainer’s worst fears were then realised when further rain turned conditions soft. Haggas has now admitted things did not go to plan during last Wednesday’s run although no long-term damage appears to have been done, which means Sea of Class should be able to run in the King George on July 27.‘She’s fine, thankfully,’ said the Newmarket trainer. ‘The plan was always to go for the Prince of Wales’s, and then the King George, so I don’t see why that should change. ‘All options are still open and it will depend on what happens in the next couple of weeks. But as far as I’m concerned, she’s absolutely fine – and I won’t run her on soft again.’
