Royal Ascot hero retired
Trainer Charlie Appleby has confirmed that Blue Point has been retired following his heroics at Royal Ascot last week.
The Godolphin-owned five-year-old became just the third horse to win two races in the same week at the historic meeting, as he followed up his victory in Tuesday’s King’s Stand Stakes with success in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes on Saturday. Simenon had been the last horse to win two races in the same week at Royal Ascot, following his successes in the Ascot Stakes and Queen Alexandra Stakes in 2012, while Blue Point’s triumphs matched what Choisir achieved in 2003. The double-success also made it five wins from five for the Irish horse this season, but Appleby has now confirmed that he has been retired to stud after reaching what he believes has to be regarded as the pinnacle of his racing career. ‘To did what he did within five days was the pinnacle of his career and he couldn’t have done any more,’ Appleby was quoted as saying by the Racing Post.‘He retires fit and well to Dalham Hall where he will try and emulate his father Shamardal.’
