Fanning ruled out of Royal Ascot
Jockey Joe Fanning will not take any rides at Royal Ascot next week due to the shoulder injury he aggravated earlier this month.
Fanning had been in line to take a number of rides for Scottish trainer Mark Johnston at the prestigious meeting, but he inflamed an old shoulder injury during a fall at Ripon on June 5 and he has not been able recover in time. The news will certainly be a source of frustration for Fanning although he is expected to be back out riding soon, with his agent Niall Hannity confirming they have pencilled in a ride at Beverley on June 25 for his potential return. ‘Unfortunately Joe won’t be back in time for Ascot,’ Hannity said. ‘He saw his specialist in York on Wednesday and he is pleased with the shoulder, but said it just needs another easy week.‘Joe will be back riding out next week and is thinking of being back for Beverley the following Tuesday.’
