Richard hails Takingrisks after Scottish National success
Trainer Nicky Richards was delighted that Takingrisks rode his luck to win the Scottish Grand National on Saturday.
Sent off at 25/1, the son of Golden Tornado beat Crosspark by four lengths at Ayr to land the Grade 3 contest under Sean Quinlan. Vintage Clouds was sent off favourite but faded five from home, with Takingrisks and Crosspark left to battle it out. It was the former who proved strongest as Crosspark only just held on to take second from Jonjo O’Neill’s Cloth Cap. Richards was understandably pleased and felt his charge had made progress after enjoying a slice of luck. ‘You need a good-ground horse who stays – and luck, he nearly came off him at the first,’ he said. ‘He’s been a grand one, very consistent, and I think the improvement is down to the cheekpieces. This was always going to be his race, if he had a big one in him.’ Racing Postcast: ITV Racing from Ayr & Newbury | Scottish Grand National | Weekend Tipping
