Aptly Named Henderson Seven-Year-Old Ready For Extra Distance
Geraghty Mount To Get Back On Winning Trail
King’s Theatre was a top-class middle-distance performer who won the King George in 1994 and horses that excel at that distance at its highest level inevitably produce stayers on the flat and over jumps. King’s Theatre has sired the likes of Cue Card and The New One and his son, CHAMP tackles three miles for the first time today. The latter had won his last four races, all around an extended two and a half miles before tackling the best in the Ballymore at the Cheltenham festival. He went down to City Island there but had the likes of Bright Forecast and Brewin’upastorm in third and fourth. There only seems the Gordon Elliott trained DALLAS DES PICTON, and the so far unbeaten EMITOM who could feasibly match that performance today and Champ, who is rated best on BTO regular and speed figures looks likely to get the extra three furlongs on Aintree’s flat track – without the Cheltenham hill – and win today. He is not likely to produce a worst performance as the Cheltenham race was his one in two and a half months, whereas Dallas Des Picton has been on the go since Boxing Day and this is a massive step up for Emitom. BLACK TYPE’s 3/1 make the Henderson charge a champ bet. G Lees
