Frodon’s Aintree farewell ruled out
Paul Nicholls says Cheltenham Festival hero Frodon will not go to the Grand National meeting and is done for the season.
The performance of the seven-year-old was one of the talking points of the Festival after carrying Bryony Frost to an emotional victory in the Ryanair Chase. The Paul Vogt-owned charge was expected to mark his seasonal farewell in the JLT Melling Chase at Aintree in April but the decision has now been taken to start his off-season early. He told the Racing Post: ‘He’s not going to run anywhere. Bryony won’t be fit for a couple of weeks and there’s nothing for him really. He’s had five hard races and been on the go since he won the Old Roan in October. He’s sound and fit and well, but there isn’t anything crying out for him to run in. We’ll keep him fresh for next season. ‘ While Nicholls won’t be able to call upon Frodon for the Melling Chase, the Ditcheat handler has confirmed that he intends to run Politologue in one of the feature races of the meet after his strong showing when runner-up to Altior in the Champion Chase at Cheltenham.
