O’Connell looking forward to Sandown
Colm O’Connell says he is excited to see Un De Sceaux in Saturday’s Betfair Tingle Creek at Sandown.
Un De Sceaux was last seen at Punchestown in April when beating stablemate Douvan by two and three quarter lengths in the BoyleSports Champion Chase at Punchestown. The 10-year-old is now set to make his first start of the season although there are still slight doubts over where he will be racing due to the conditions not favouring the Willie Mullins-trained charge. However, with the recent rain, it seems likely the camp will head to Sandown this weekend and O’Connell is looking forward to seeing the 2016 Tingle Creek champion in action. ‘He’s been in (training) a while but the ground has made it difficult for him.Thankfully the rain is now coming,’ part-owner Colm O’Connell said. ‘If he goes to Sandown and takes on Altior it’s the race of the season. We’d love to take him on. ‘I’d love to see him in the Tingle Creek, it’s one of the great races. How Ruby (Walsh) will ride him will be interesting, too – will he drop him in or not? The rain is all in our favour, too. ‘He’s in the John Durkan but that has barely been mentioned, it was either the Hilly Way or the Tingle Creek. We won the Hilly Way last year but it would be great to go to Sandown with him.’
